Kate O'Connell, LPC is the founder and clinical director of HACVA. She is a writer, graphic artist, professional photographer, and Child and Family Therapist in private practice in Charlottesville, VA addressing the therapeutic needs of children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Her training in Intensive-in-Home Services, Addiction, Family Systems Therapy, Energy Medicine and Shamanic Healing enables her to facilitate positive outcomes for her clients while advocating for them within the legal, academic, medical and social systems. Her new book Beyond the Imprint; A New Modality for Mental Health Practitioners and Those Seeking Their Help provides the framework for HACVA’s philosophy on healing emotional, mental, and physical imbalances at the cellular level.
Kate Shumate, RN, CMT, CST, CLT is the co-founder and program director of HACVA. Beginning in 1986, she worked as an RN at UVA Hospital for 25 years. From 1996 until 2003 she was trained in CranioSacral Therapy and Somatic Emotional Release Therapy. She became a certified presenter in 2008 for “Grounding and Healthy Boundaries” after studying for four years with Suzanne Scurlock-Durana. Kate attended the Virginia School of Massage, becoming certified in 2002. She completed Level 3 of Manual Lymph Drainage in 2010 at the Upledger Institute and after studying at the Academy of Lymphatic Studies, she became certified in Complete Decongestive Therapy in 2016. Kate is in private practice in Charlottesville, VA where she utilizes her extensive knowledge and skills to facilitate healing at the deepest levels for her clients.
